Prime Minister’s Office

Theresa May leads a Conservative Majority Government. She chairs Cabinet which meets in 10 Downing Street. The office helps the Prime Minister to establish and deliver the government's overall strategy and policy priorities, and to communicate the government's policies to Parliament, the public and international audiences.


Cabinet Office

We support the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, and ensure the effective running of government. We are also the corporate headquarters for government, in partnership with HM Treasury, and we take the lead in certain critical policy areas.

Attorney General’s Office

The Attorney General's Office (AGO) provides legal advice and support to the Attorney General and the Solicitor General (the Law Officers) who give legal advice to government. The AGO helps the Law Officers perform other duties in the public interest, such as looking at sentences which may be too low.


Department for Communities and Local Government

The Department for Communities and Local Government's job is to create great places to live and work, and to give more power to local people to shape what happens in their area.


Crown Prosecution Service

The CPS is responsible for prosecuting criminal cases investigated by the police and other investigative authorities, in England and Wales.


Crown Commercial Service

The Crown Commercial Service (CCS) brings together policy, advice and direct buying; providing commercial services to the public sector and saving money for the taxpayer.

Department for Culture, Media and Sport

The Department for Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) is here to help make Britain the world’s most creative and exciting place to live, visit and do business. We protect and promote our cultural and artistic heritage and help businesses and communities to grow by investing in innovation and highlighting Britain as a fantastic place to visit. Alongside this, we protect our deeply held beliefs in freedom and equality. We help to give the UK a unique advantage in the global race for economic success.


Ministry of Defence

We protect the security, independence and interests of our country at home and abroad. We work with our allies and partners whenever possible. Our aim is to ensure that the armed forces have the training, equipment and support necessary for their work, and that we keep within budget.


Department for Education

We are responsible for education and children’s services in England. We work to achieve a highly educated society in which opportunity is equal for children and young people, no matter what their background or family circumstances.




Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

We are the UK government department responsible for policy and regulations on environmental, food and rural issues. 


Foreign and Commonwealth Office

The FCO promotes British interests overseas, supporting our citizens and businesses around the globe.


Government Digital Service

The Government Digial Service help government make digital services and information simpler, clearer and faster. They put users' needs before the needs of government.


Department of Health

The Department of Health (DH) helps people to live better for longer. We lead, shape and fund health and care in England, making sure people have the support, care and treatment they need, with the compassion, respect and dignity they deserve.


Home Office

The Home Office leads on immigration and passports, drugs policy, crime policy and counter-terrorism and works to ensure visible, responsive and accountable policing in the UK.


Department for International Development

The Department for International Development (DFID) leads the UK’s work to end extreme poverty. We're ending the need for aid by creating jobs, unlocking the potential of girls and women and helping to save lives when humanitarian emergencies hit.


Ministry of Justice

We work to protect the public and reduce reoffending, and to provide a more effective, transparent and responsive criminal justice system for victims and the public.


Northern Ireland Office

We ensure the smooth working of the devolution settlement in Northern Ireland. We represent Northern Irish interests within the UK government and we represent the UK government in Northern Ireland.


Privy Council Office

The Privy Council is how interdepartmental agreement is reached on items of government business which, for historical or other reasons, fall to ministers as privy counsellors rather than as departmental ministers. The Privy Council Office (PCO) provides secretariat services for the Council, including the arrangements leading to the making of all Royal Proclamations and Orders in Council.

HM Revenue and Customs

We are the UK’s tax authority. We are responsible for making sure that the money is available to fund the UK’s public services and for helping families and individuals with targeted financial support.


Scotland Office

We ensure the smooth working of the devolution settlement in Scotland. We represent Scottish interests within the UK government and we represent the UK government in Scotland.


The Scottish Government

The devolved government for Scotland has a range of responsibilities which include: health, education, justice, rural affairs, housing and the environment. 


Department for Transport

We work with our agencies and partners to support the transport network that helps the UK’s businesses and gets people and goods travelling around the country. We plan and invest in transport infrastructure to keep the UK on the move.


HM Treasury

HM Treasury is the government’s economic and finance ministry, maintaining control over public spending, setting the direction of the UK’s economic policy and working to achieve strong and sustainable economic growth.


Wales Office

We ensure the smooth working of the devolution settlement in Wales, representing the UK government in Wales. We also represent Welsh interests in Westminster.


Department for Work and Pensions

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is responsible for welfare and pension policy and is a key player in tackling child poverty. It is the biggest public service delivery department in the UK and serves over 20 million customers.


Government Legal Department

We are the government’s principal legal advisers. Our core purpose is to help the government to govern well, within the rule of law.

We are responsible for promoting British trade across the world and ensuring the UK takes advantage of the huge opportunities open to us.

Department for Exiting the European Union

We are responsible for overseeing negotiations to leave the EU and establishing the future relationship between the UK and EU.

Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy

The department brings together responsibilities for business, industrial strategy, science, innovation, energy, and climate change.
